Educating the heart and mind for a lasting impact.
I am Emily Voignier.
I earned my M.Ed. and Ed.S degrees in marriage and family therapy in 2019 and obtained my license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in 2021. Since then, I've have worked with a lot of clients in a variety of settings ranging from schools, to psychiatric hospitals, to group practices. All of this experience laid the ground work for my desire to build something meaningful, and so I sought out to start a small private practice that would be built on strong ethics, deep compassion, and a curious mind. I aim to provide services that my clients can count on, and I am constantly striving to improve my practice with every year I remain in service to the state of North Carolina.
Research shows that the number one predictor of successful outcomes in therapy is the relationship a client has with their therapist. I focus on building a strong relationship with each of my clients, which means investing time in earning your trust. I understand that it is not something I’m owed simply because I have the title of therapist. If you grant me the privilege of being part of your journey, I will work to earn your trust through transparency, follow-through, and dedication to your treatment.
What Sets Me Apart
Challenging Societal Narratives
If you’ve got an “unconventional” coping skill that doesn’t bring you harm I say more power to you! Do you like to lay on your living room floor when you’re overstimulated? Go for it! Need to label your closet, so you’re able to make decisions about what clothes are appropriate for the weather that day? I emphatically and zealously encourage my clients to ditch the narratives that limit our sense of self and creativity and reach for the cravings, creations, and quirky solutions already living inside ourselves. My goal is to empower you, not to enforce narratives that elicit shame.
The Scales of Challenge and Compassion
I am a compassionate therapist who aims to value and validate your emotional experience, but I am also not afraid to challenge my clients when it may benefit them. I wouldn’t describe myself as a “tough love” therapist, but I can certainly be assertive when the situation calls for it. So if you’re looking for someone who can be gentle while also still holding you accountable to your goals then I may be a great fit for you!
(P.S. If this made you suspect that I may be a libra you would be correct!)
A Little Bit of Disclosure
Most of my clients know that I’m married, attend my own personal therapy in my downtime, and have two kitties who occasionally grace us with their presence in session. While I do believe in professional boundaries, I think you deserve to feel comfortable talking to the person across from you. That means I don’t mind sharing tidbits about myself when it is appropriate. Relationship building comes first. Then trust. Then healing.
